North Collins PTA member receives award

North Collins Elementary School PTA is proud to announce Brenda Musacchio, North Collins Elementary School PTA Treasurer as the 2012 New York State Western Region PTA Leadership Award winner. Musacchio was recognized as the Western Region winner recently at the Western Region PTA Presidents and Principals Dinner held at the Hearthstone in Depew. Later, Musacchio was honored as the NYS PTA 2012 winner of the PTA Leadership Award in honor of Jane Skrzypek at the NYS PTA Convention in Saratoga Springs.

The NYS PTA award was established in 1991 to honor the memory of Skrzypek, who was a PTA member from the Western Region. The purpose of this award is to recognize an outstanding leader in the PTA who, by his or her actions, inspires others to volunteer and assume leadership positions. The award is given in recognition of outstanding PTA volunteerism and leadership. Each region may submit one nominee for this state award. One recipient is then chosen by the awards specialist and the leadership development committee and recognized at the NYS Convention. NYS PTA has 16 regions and this honor is given to one PTA member per year for their dedication, leadership ability and for forwarding the mission of the PTA.

Musacchio was nominated by members of the executive board and school principal, John Cataldo, for this honor. The nomination form indicated that Musacchio is the perfect PTA volunteer since she not only volunteers herself but she also gets others excited to volunteer and get involved.

Musacchio is in her seventh year of membership in North Collins Elementary School PTA. She has been active as the fundraising coordinator since offering to help her first year. Musacchio has introduced new collection programs, promoted existing ones to record levels and has served on most committees. She was on the committee that created the family fun events that are currently held that include Math Night, Reading Night, Movie Night, Fitness Night and Craft Night. She was instrumental in getting a North Collins Elementary School PTA website and a Facebook page. Musacchio has been doing the publicity since she joined including working on membership brochures and newsletters. Musacchio has encouraged others to become involved in our organization and has encouraged participation in PTA programs such as Reflections. This has resulted in recognition at the regional level for some of the elementary students of North Collins. Musacchio has served as Vice-President, President for two years and currently is the treasurer.

Musacchio and her husband, James, have one son Andrew. They both are very supportive of her activities that benefit the PTA and pitch in whenever possible. She also works full time as a paralegal at Musacchio & Pyle in Gowanda.

She is an inspiration to the community of North Collins and all PTA members.
