Free self defense class
With the overwhelming demand for self defense, Family Martial Arts Center has decided to host a free service to the community so it has the opportunity to learn techniques that will not only help them to feel safe, but to allow them to be more confident in many choices.
The class is open to anyone ages 3-18. Registration will take place Saturday, Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon, or done through email at email@example.com or by phone, 672-6683.
All student’s will be taught the fundamentals of the martial arts. At the end of the program, if interested in registering, the school will offer a promotional package which includes a rate discount and a free uniform.
Family Martial Arts is located at 355 Central Ave., Fredonia.

Dunkirk Knights of
Columbus Youth Free
All boys and girls ages 10-14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2013 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Northern Chautauqua Catholic School gymnasium.
The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district and state competitions.
All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. For entry forms or additional information, contact the local schools or J. Strychalski at 366-8330.
Fredonia State’s “Skate with the Blue Devils”
The Fredonia State men’s hockey team will host its annual “Skate with the Blue Devils” on Wednesday, Jan. 2 from 6-7 p.m., in the Steele Hall Ice Arena.
The event will include hockey drills, skills, fun and games. Full equipment is required.
Admission is a canned food item, which will be donated to a local food bank.
Baseball Umpires Assoc.
Chautauqua County Baseball Umpires Association will be holding classes for anyone interested in becoming a baseball umpire for this upcoming high school season.
Classes will be held during January and February. For additional information, contact Ray Lindquist at 450-2158.
