Fredonia comes away with win in Allegany

ALLEGANY – Fredonia’s long bus trip home was a little more enjoyable Thursday night because the Hillbillies (6-3, 3-1) were coming off a 63-48 win over Allegany-Limestone (3-5, 1-2) in CCAA Division 1 basketball.
Nick Johnston returned from injury to lead Fredonia with 18 points.
“It was nice to have Nick back near full-strength,” Fredonia coach Greg Lauer said. “He was strong down the stretch.”
The whole Fredonia team was strong down the stretch as it outscored Allegany-Limestone 36-19 in the second half.
“We played excellent defense in the second half,” Lauer added. “The whole team played well.”
Dylan Meyer added 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win while John Piper poured in 17 points.
Dominic Saglemben hit a game-high seven free throws en route to a 15-point performance to lead the Gators.
Fredonia hosts Division 1 foe Gowanda, Monday.
Radack leads Trojans past Panthers
GOWANDA – Southwestern used 26 points from Kyle Radack to down Gowanda, 70-57, Thursday in CCAA Division 1 basketball.
Alex Peck added 15 points and Peter Trathen netted another 14 in the win for the Trojans.
Zach Stevens was the high scorer for Gowanda (2-6, 0-3) with 19 points. Chase Williams added 13 while Jordan Young added eight.
Gowanda will look to get its first league win Monday against Fredonia.
