Congressman Reed takes oath of office

Rep. Tom Reed, R-Corning, was sworn into the 113th Congress by House Speaker John Boehner. Reed begins a two-year term representing New York’s newly-drawn 23rd Congressional District.

Locally, Reed previously represented Cattaraugus County. His district now includes Chautauqua County.

“When I was sworn into Congress for the first time two years ago, I stressed the need to tackle our unsustainable debt and get our financial priorities straight so that we can bring jobs to the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes,” he said. “I’m here today to continue the fight and am optimistic that our freshman now sophomore class will continue to lead.”

Reed took the oath of office Thursday from House Speaker John Boehner on the floor of the House of Representatives surrounded by his wife Jean, daughter Autumn and son Will.

Congressman Reed was previously sworn in to complete a term after winning a special election in November 2010 and began his first full two-year term in the 112th Congress in January 2011.

Along with Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, the newly-drawn 23rd district includes Allegany, Chemung, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins and Yates counties.
