Brocton Teachers Association honors outstanding students

BROCTON – The Brocton Teachers’ Association announces the Students of the Month for November.

The middle school student of the month is eighth-grader Hope Powell. Hope is the daughter of Kevin and Amber Powell of Brocton and Faith Powell of Portland. She is a member of the school chorus and is an honor roll student. Her favorite class is Science. Outside of school, Hope is a swimmer for the Hammerhead Swim Club and is involved in a youth leadership program. Her future plans include becoming an illustrator.

The high school student of the month is senior John Nickerson Jr. He is the son of John and Dawn Nickerson of Brocton. He is a member of the Interact Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, Sources of Strength and editor/treasurer for the Brocton Review. He is also a bowler for the school team as well as the Grape Belt Youth Bowling League. He is currently ranked third in his class and is a Boys State participant. Outside of school, he enjoys hunting, participating in the Chautauqua County Demolition Derby and spending time with his friends. His favorite subjects are math and science. He was awarded the Presidential Scholarship by Alfred State and plans to study architectural technology.
