Blessed Mary Angela Parish to hold Chicken BBQ Dinner

The Blessed Mary Angela Parish Holy Name Society will hold a chicken BBQ dinner Jan. 16 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. or until dinners are sold out at the parish social center, 324 Townsend St. Dunkirk. The menu will include chicken by Mike Porpiglia, tossed salad, rolls with butter, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, dessert, and coffee and iced tea. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for children. They are available after Masses at Church of St Hyacinth, Church of St. Hedwig, at Big Rick’s One Stop on Lake Shore Drive and the parish office at 324 Townsend St. Diners may eat in or get takeout. There are a limited number of tickets available at the door. To reserve tickets for pick-up at the door, community members should call 366-2307.

Donations being accepted for Westfield fire victims

Donations are being accepted at Great Lakes Medical Research and Westfield Family Physicians located 138 E. Main St., Westfield for four families that were displaced by a fire on Cottage Street Saturday. No furniture or large items please and gift cards would be gladly accepted.

Donations will be accepted today from noon until 5 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, contact Maria Resnick at the medical offices at 326-4678.

Gas price unchanged

Average retail gasoline prices in Rochester have not moved in the past week, averaging $3.67/g Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 319 gas outlets in Rochester. This compares with the national average that has not moved in the last week to $3.26/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com. Including the change in gas prices in Rochester during the past week, prices Sunday were 15.4 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 8.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.

Golf Fitness Class

A Golf Fitness Class at Darwins Health Club will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The class begins Thursday and runs through April 9. It’s good for seniors, but open to everyone.

City issues reminder on recycling

The city of Dunkirk is reminding its residents the first recycling pickup for the year will be during the week of Jan. 14 and every other week thereafter. This is a new schedule for recycling pickup. Those with questions can call Dunkirk City Hall at 366-2055.

Gowanda Board of Ed

to host budget workshop

The Gowanda Board of Education will host a budget workshop meeting on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Gowanda Middle School Library on Panther Drive.
