Williams gets 1,000th point in SC?win
RANDOLPH – Randolph’s Bryce Morrison scored 42 points during Thursday’s CCAA Division 2 boys high school basketball game.
The feat almost overshadowed Silver Creek’s Zeddie Williams scoring his 1,000th career point in leading the Black Knights (11-0, 6-0) over the Cardinals (5-3), 86-79.
“In competitive games is when you see Zeddie at his best,” Silver Creek coach Rob Genco said. “He does what he has to do. He got everyone involved. In the second half, he had 15 points. He also had an assist in every basket he didn’t score in during the second half. That’s the guy we need to step up in those big moments. He gets us going. We couldn’t be more happy for him as a team. We are all excited for him. It’s only been done four times in school history.”
Silver Creek opened the game with a 22-13 lead after the first quarter.
However, in the second frame, Morrison went off as he drilled five of his 10 3-pointers to help the home team outscore the Black Knights, 34-22 to take a 47-44 halftime edge.
“It was one of the most impressive shooting displays I have ever seen,” Genco said.
In the fourth quarter, the Black Knights trailed by five, but Williams took over to lead the Black Knights to victory.
“We needed to be in a battle,” Genco said. “We haven’t had a game within 20 points. The reality is we have to do what we do and play together as a team and play our system. Tonight we battled with foul trouble.”
Williams led the way with 25 points while Kaine Kettle scored 19. Steve Marcy added 16 and Brandon Brooks netted 15 in the win.
Genco also noted the fan support his team received as half the Randolph gym was filled with Silver Creek faithful.
“We appreciate the Silver Creek fans,” he said. “On behalf of the team, we appreciate the support we have had. We are playing for the community and represent them the best way we can.”
