Balanced attack leads Warriors past Cougars

SINCLAIRVILLE – Salamanca (2-2, 5-4) had four players score in double figures as the Warriors prevailed over Cassadaga Valley, 63-38, Thursday in CCAA Division 2 boys basketball.

Sophomore Cody Johnson recorded his first career double-double for the Cougars (1-4, 5-5) with 10 points and 10 steals, but a 20-7 run in the second quarter allowed Salamanca to pull away.

Damion Taylor (13 points), Tanner John (12), Jared Fish (11) and Bryce Stahlman (11) all contributed to the Warriors’ victory.

Randy Dalaba managed to pull down 11 rebounds for Cassadaga Valley, but was held off the score sheet. Head coach Rich Clifford credited Kyle Ruge with playing fantastic defense. Ruge tallied five steals and seven points.

Cassadaga Valley will try to get back on the winning track, Tuesday at Portville.


Division 4

Brocton 49, West Valley 37

BROCTON – Brocton (5-1, 8-1) continued its stellar season with a 49-37 win over West Valley (1-5, 1-9), Thursday in a CCAA Division 4 boys basketball contest.

Dan Ferguson recorded a double-double for the Bulldogs with 12 points and 15 rebounds along with eight steals. Jordan Patterson led Brocton with 17 points while also tallying five steals and five assists.

Brocton only led by two at halftime, but used a 10-4 third quarter to set the table for the win.

The Bulldogs will try to keep rolling Tuesday when they host Ripley.
