Home Health Aide Program begins Jan. 29

The Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Adult & Community Education Division will offer an evening Home Health Aide Program beginning Jan. 29 for those interested in pursuing a career in home and personal care. A mandatory orientation/Test for Adult Basic Education is scheduled for Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Jamestown Health Career Training Center, which is located at the Jones Memorial Health Center in Jamestown.

The home health care industry is growing at a tremendous pace with a 70 percent increase in home health and personal care aide opportunities projected by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics between 2010 and 2020 (much faster than the national average for job growth). Trainees will learn how to provide routine personal health care services such as bathing, dressing, and grooming for elderly, convalescent or disabled persons in their homes or at residential care facilities.

Classes will take place Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 to 9 p.m. from Jan. 29 to March 5 at the Jones Memorial Health Center. The program will encompass 80 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of supervised, hands-on training in a clinical environment. The registration fee is $800.

Financial aid may be available for qualifying students. For more information or to register, contact Sally Horton at the Adult & Community Education Division at (800) 228-1184 or 805-3160 or send a check or money order prior to the start date to the Carrier Educational Center, c/o Adult & Community Education, 8685 Erie Road, Angola 14006.
