Cold water rescue in Hanover

HANOVER – Shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Sunday the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a male in the water in Hanford Bay. It wasn’t part of the Polar Bear Swim, scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Raymond A. Adamczyk, 46, of Southwestern Boulevard in Hamburg was reportedly duck hunting using a kayak. The kayak overturned about 500 yards away from shore.

Sheriff’s deputies, the Chautauqua County Water Emergency, Silver Creek Police, Silver Creek Fire Department and Sunset Bay Fire Department responded to the scene. A jet ski from Sunset Bay Fire Department was used to make contact with Adamczyk.

Adamczyk had a Coast Guard approved vest on at the time of the incident.
