T’birds edge Panthers

SOUTH DAYTON – It was a good battle all night long as Chautauqua Lake traveled to Pine Valley (1-4, 2-7) and when it was over, the Thunderbirds had just a little bit more to earn a hard fought 57-49 win in Division 3 boys basketball.

Both teams played evenly and ended the half tied at 23-23, but Chautauqua Lake played solid man-to-man defense to gain a 4-point lead after the third quarter and increased that by another four in the final period.

Ian Clute was the top shooter for the winners, pouring in 17 points and earning the double-double with 17 rebounds, Cody Thomas and Carter Davidson each added 14 points and A.J. Hulton had 11 points.

Lucas Trombley led Pine Valley with 19 points, Spencer Sticek netted 14 points and Bryce Jay had 10 points and completed the double-double with 19 rebounds and Jake Wilcox contributed eight rebounds.
