Joan E. Wheeler

Joan E. Wheeler, 83, of Dunkirk, died Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2013) at Lake Shore Nursing Facility in Irving, NY.

She was born March 14, 1929 in Olean, NY, the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Hurley) Morton.

Mrs. Wheeler graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and Olean High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from St. Bonaventure College in Allegany, NY and was among some of the first full-time female graduates.

Mrs. Wheeler remained active in the family businesses until shortly be-fore her death. She also was active in two bridge groups of dear friends and sup-porters.

Survivors include five children, Ann (Richard) Barbuto of Leavenworth, KS, Elizabeth Wheeler of Lakeview, NY, George (Susan) Wheeler of Dunkirk, Mary (Mark) Krystofik of Penfield, NY, and Patrick Wheeler of Dunkirk; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James R. Wheeler; and her sons, James J. and Michael R. Wheeler.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 19, at 10 o’clock in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Calling hours will be held Friday, Jan. 18, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W.
