DUNKIRK: Celebrating past, present
There’s quite a bit of history attached to the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce.
According to incoming president Ellen Luczkowiak, the organization began in 1901 and at its height served more than 800 businesses and industry. Dunkirk’s economy has changed in the last century, but the community chamber still plays an important role.
As noted on today’s front page, more than 80 people attended the organization’s 2012 awards luncheon and annual meeting at the Clarion Hotel Marina and Conference Center. While changes were made on the board and in the officers, the award winners deserve congratulations. They include:
Business of the year – Add Lumber.
Community service recipients – Drs. James and Irene Strychalski, Lake Shore Orthodontics and Oral Surgery.
New member business – Rookie’s on the Lake.
Continued years of service – Kirk’s Jewelers & Gifts Inc.
Special recognition – Jamestown Community College.
