Spaghetti dinner benefit at Nickel Plate Depot for Stefany Nalepa

A spaghetti dinner benefit for Stefany Nalepa will be held Jan. 27 at the Nickel Plate Depot, 131 Central Ave. in Brocton, with doors opening at noon.

The event will feature live entertainment by Nick Siracuse from 97 Rock, a silent auction, bake sale and 50/50 raffle.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Taco Bell/KFC in Fredonia and at the door. Take-out is available.

Stefany Nalepa was diagnosed with lymphoma in the summer. After fighting, and winning, that battle in Sept-ember 2012, she was diagnosed with brain cancer in October.

As medical treatments and weekly trips to Roswell continue, Nalepa’s family and friends are reaching out to the community for help and support.

Gowanda Neighborhood Watch meeting set for Jan. 23

The Gowanda Neighbor-hood Watch will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 23. The meeting will be held in the board room at the Village Hall, 27 E. Main St., Gowanda.

Low pressure warning tonight for water

customers in Vineyard Drive area of Dunkirk

City of Dunkirk Public Works is advising water customers in the Vineyard Drive area that they will experience low water pressure tonight beginning at 11 p.m.

This is due to NRG replacing equipment that supplies power to the Main Street Booster Station.

The duration of low pressure is scheduled to be about one hour, ending at midnight.

Silver Creek Village Board meeting Friday

The Silver Creek Village Board will hold a special meeting Friday at 4 p.m. in the village hall. The board will hold an executive session to discuss contract negotiations. This meeting is open to the public.

Portland fire district board meeting Monday

There will be a special meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Portland Fire District on Monday at 7 p.m. for the purpose of auditing the District’s financial books for 2012, and any other business that may come before the board.

This meeting is open to any individual of the district to attend.


conditioning classes begin Feb. 5

The Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES Adult & Community Education Division will offer evening classes in the area of Refrigeration/Air Conditioning beginning Feb. 5 at the Carrier Educational Center in Angola.

The 30-hour Refrigera-tion/Air Conditioning Level 1 introductory course, taught by instructor Chuck Fafara, will take place at the Carrier Center on Tuesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning Feb. 5.

Students will learn the basics about refrigeration systems as well as the tools and service procedures used by refrigeration mechanics. The registration fee for the class is $350.
