Mary E. VanNote

GOWANDA – Mary E. VanNote, age 81, of Union Street, Gowanda, NY passed away Wednesday evening (January 16, 2013) at the TLC Health Care Center Lake Shore ( Town of Hanover) with family at her side.

Born in Rochester NY on May 18, 1931 the daughter of the late Rev. Albert and Geraldine (Crane) Asquith.

Mary married Merle E. VanNote on May 6, 1950 in the United Methodist Church (corner of Seneca and Babcock) Buffalo, NY.

A switchboard operator, Mary worked for the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center, retiring in 1986 after more than 30 years of state service. At the time of her retirement, she was a supervising switchboard operator.

Survivors, besides her husband of nearly 63 years, Merle VanNote, are her children David M. (Carlotta) VanNote of Eden, Dennis A. (Bonnie) Van-Note of Phoenix, Az, Mrs. Wayne (Rebecca A.) Trout-man of Perrysburg, Mrs. Todd (Terri J.) Nowicki and Kathy S. Pruitt of Go-wanda; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren, Mary is also survived by her brother Robert (Ruth) Asquith of Statesville, NC, and sister Catherine (late Sonny) Block of Buffalo along with several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a baby daughter who died at birth; and her brother, William Asquith.

A celebration of Mary’s life will take place on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the GOWANDA MOOSE LODGE, 201 Aldrich St. Gowanda (across from the fire hall) from 5pm to 7pm. The family invites friends to come and share a memory, a story or to spend time with them. At Mary’s request, a private burial will take place in the Collins Center Cemetery.
