Twenty years ago – 1993

Chautauqua County Legislator Charles Porpiglia (D-Dunkirk) and county Democratic Committee Chairman Jack Dillenburg of Arkwright have received special invitations for the inauguration of President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore in Washington this week. Porpiglia said he played an active role in the Clinton campaign in Chautauqua County. “I guess they didn’t forget what we did,” Porpiglia said. Both Porpiglia and Dillenburg received “personal invitations” from the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

Thirty years ago – 1983

The Dunkirk Board of Education has a 1.6-acre vacant lot to sell and Murray Hose Co. No. 4 wants to buy it. According to Hose 4 president Chester Tarnowski, the lot would be used for Hose 4’s recreational purposes, such as a tent city during the WNY Volunteer Firemen Association convention in 1984. The parcel is located along Lamphere Street, north of the Norfolk & Western Railway.

Forty years ago – 1973

Prints by David Small of Fredonia will appear in an exhibit entitled, “Prints and Sculpture,” which will open Feb. 4 at the Duns Scotus Gallery at Rosary Hill College.

Fifty years ago – 1963

The Herman Swanson family has been honored as the “Farm Family of the Month” by the Chautauqua County Farm Bureau. The family farm, “Breezecrest Farm,” is on Bowers Road between Cassadaga and Brocton.
