Harold J. Boedo

IRVING – Harold J. Boedo, 91, of Irving, NY died Monday (Jan. 21, 2013) at the TLC Lake Shore Nursing Home in Irving.

He was born Dec. 28, 1921 in Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of the late August and Frances (Hallet) Boedo.

Harold was a Canadian citizen when he joined the U.S. Army on Dec. 7, 1942 and was honorably discharged on Jan. 31, 1946 as a Private First Class. He served with the 906th Field Artillery Battalion in the Pacific Theater. He became a U.S. citizen on Feb. 6, 1947.

Mr. Boedo was employed by Bethlehem Steel Company in Lackawanna, NY. He retired from the coke ovens department with 43 years of service.

Harold owned and operated several service stations in the Hamburg area: Texaco, Sunoco, Ash-land and American, to name a few. He was a member of the Hamburg Moose and the Silver Creek VFW.

During his retirement, he spent his time restoring a “1967” Ford Mustang. He also enjoyed putting together model airplanes and boats.

He is survived by three sons, Gordon (Cynthia) Boedo of Eden, NY, Ed-ward (Joyce) Boedo of Irving, NY, Russell Boedo of Angola, NY; two sisters, Marjorie (Edward) Celani of Spring Hill, Fla.; Jean Scaturro of Swansboro, NC; seven grandchildren, Kathy, Michael, Daniel, Krystle, Robert, Brian and Shane; five great grandchildren; and his beloved friend of 29 years, Elaine White of Brocton, NY.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Barraclough) Boedo; a brother, Gordon Boedo; and a sister, Helen Ponton.

Friends may call on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday, January 25, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY where a funeral service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 10 a.m. Burial will be made in the Lakeside Cemetery, Hamburg, NY and will be private.
