Lakeshore Humane Society Pet Adoption Day/Open House

The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold a Pet Adoption Day/Open House at its Adoption Center on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The center is located at 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk.

Potential adopters are invited to meet some of the many orphaned animals who need to go home with caring owners.

New web app allows New Yorkers to explore the state budget

A new Internet application giving New Yorkers ability to instantly access, browse through and download financial details of New York’s state budget was unveiled last week by the Empire Center.

The Explore Your State Budget app, at, usefully organizes and condenses the financial plan data made available in raw spreadsheet form through Governor Andrew Cuomo’s new Open Budget initiative.

Getaway Weekend

The Chadwick Bay Chapter/Lakeshore Business and Professional Women of NYS Inc. announce the 14th annual Getaway Weekend Feb. 1, 2 and 3 at the Clarion Hotel in Dunkirk. Women are invited to a fun-filled weekend of pampering, wining and dining, shopping and exercise. Friday night’s networking party starts the festivities followed by the casino fundraising night with local businessmen as the dealers. The cost is $149 per person per double occupancy for a two-night stay that includes Saturday breakfast, lunch and banquet dinner and Sunday brunch.

The shopping expo will be truly extraordinary this year with wares ranging from jewelry, pottery and purses to pet accessories to soaps and lotions for weather-beaten hands.
