Forestville dropped by Maple Grove, 51-44

FORESTVILLE – The Forestville Lady Hornets (2-6, 7-9) could not put together a complete effort on both ends of the court Monday as the Maple Grove Lady Red Dragons (6-2, 8-6) prevailed, 51-44, in CCAA Division 3 girls high school basketball action.

“When we were doing things well offensively, we weren’t getting the stops on defense,” Forestville coach Sierra Finch said. “When we got the stops on defense, we weren’t converting on offense. We just couldn’t put both ends together.”

The Lady Red Dragons took a slim 14-12 lead into the second quarter and went on a 13-6 run to take a 27-18 halftime lead.

In the second half, Forestville outscored the visitors, 28-24.

Forestville could not stop the duo of Nickara Liddell and Lauren Nickerson. Liddell finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Lauren Nickerson had 18 points and 10 boards of her own.

The Lady Hornets were led by Sydney Youngberg’s 17 points and 11 rebounds. Alisha Szumigala added seven points, 11 rebounds and two blocks in the losing effort.

Forestville returns to action Thursday when it travels to Westfield.

Chautauqua Lake 68,?Westfield 22

MAYVILLE – Jenna Einink paved the way in the opening quarter for unbeaten Chautauqua Lake (8-0, 12-0) in Division 3 girls basketball.

Einink scored 10 points in the first eight minutes to key a 24-3 run and the Lady Thunderbirds went on to post a 68-22 victory over Westfield (0-7, 4-9) on Monday night.

Ashton Albanesius was also a factor with 10 points in the first half when Chautauqua Lake was building up a 36-12 advantage.

Einink had 10 more points in the third quarter to finish with 22 and she also hauled down 11 rebounds.

Albanesius was the CL leader in rebounding with 13 and wound up with 14 points.

Einink also had five steals and four assists. Katie Doyle nailed the only 3-pointers, two, for the Lady Thunderbirds.

Emily Archer had eight points to lead Westfield.
