Brooks nets 25, pulls down 28 boards in SC win
SILVER CREEK – Jordan Brooks scored 25 points and grabbed 28 rebounds in leading the Silver Creek Black Knights (4-4, 6-6) past the Portville Lady Panthers (2-6, 5-8), 41-33, Monday in CCAA Division 2 girls high school basketball.
Despite her high point total, Silver Creek coach Tammy Rice noted many of her rebounds came off her own miss as the Lady Panthers had no player tall enough to contest the 6-foot-4 junior for rebounds.
“She struggled to make her first shots,” Rice said. “She doesn’t get a lot of fouls called. She is tall and struggled to find the right spot on the glass. She worked super hard and go third or four chances before she got her shot to fall.”
Brooks scored eight points in the first quarter as the Black Knights outscored the visitors, 13-3.
Portville played tough with Silver Creek the rest of the way, only being outscored 32-29.
Any chance the Lady Panthers had of a comeback was squashed in the final eight minutes as Brooks scored nine of her team’s 14 points. She also added seven blocks on the defensive end.
Cora Utegg added six points and seven rebounds while Marissa Donovan also had seven boards to go along with her six points. Jade Lewis had five assists for the winners.
Silver Creek returns to action Thursday when it travels to Cassadaga Valley to take on the Lady Cougars.
