Silver Creek School Board takes care of business

SILVER CREEK – The Silver Creek Board of Education had several matters of business to attend to at its most recent board meeting.

The board approved a shared services agreement with Forestville Central School for football. This is the second year of the contract.

The board also approved a conference request for Athletic Director Sean Helmer, Wayne Griem, Dan Tonaszewski and Ben Forenzo to attend the Frank Glazier Mega Clinic.

A transfer of funds was also approved from district operations/heating fuel to equipment. Superintendent Daniel Ljiljanich said the $19,950 transfer was for the replacement of a snowblower.

The board also had a visit from a familiar face. ECC2BOCES Superintendent and former Silver Creek Superintendent David O’Rourke attended the meeting to explain what BOCES does for school districts and to ask the board to fill out a survey.

“BOCES is here to serve students, the community, teachers and administration … Our job is to adapt to the needs of the district,” he explained.

The board also took care of personnel items including the resignations of JV boys basketball coach Dan Vona, basketball cheerleading coach Jodie Ward and teacher aide Scharlene Hehir. Hehir was then appointed as office assistant.

Chris Prevet was appointed as JV boys basketball coach and Noelle Harford was appointed as basketball cheerleading coach.

The board also approved leaves of absence for Anna Fred and Heather Westlund. Both Fred and Westlund attended the meeting and thanked the board for approving their leaves.

The board will next meet on Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. for a workshop on expenditures and a meeting at 7 p.m. There will also be a public forum on the budget on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.
