Girl Scouts hold pop can/bottle drive for hurricane victims
FORESTVILLE – The Forestville Junior Girl Scouts are holding a pop can/bottle drive from now through Feb. 2. The girls found out that there were eight Girl Scout councils affected by Hurricane Sandy. They want to host a pop can/bottle drive for the rest of January to help out their fellow Girl Scouts. Their goal is to send each council $100, which means they need to raise a total of $800. The girls will be hosting a drop-off site on Feb. 2 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Forestville Baptist Church. They will be offering hot chocolate and treats to anyone who makes a donation.
Just how severely the Girl Scouts were affected by Hurricane Sandy is evidenced by the damage to their camps. Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson was affected with extensive tree damage at many of the camp’s properties, including Camp Addison Boyce, Rock Hill, Rocky Brook, and Ludington. There was also damage to the Pleasantville Regional Office, and the structures at Rock Hill Camp are still in need of repair.
Community members are asked to help the Girl Scouts with their goal of assisting their fellow troops in need.
