Group ‘amazed’ by benefit success

It may have been a cold and windy Sunday, Jan. 20, but the atmosphere inside Westfield Academy and Central School was one of warmth and caring. The Westfield Teachers’ Association conducted its first Circle of Friends concert and dinner fundraiser to benefit Aili Makuch. Our goal was to raise $2,000 to benefit Aili’s medical fund.

We were shocked and amazed when the totals came in this week. Our Association was able to write a check for $4,502 to Aili and her family!

I must take this opportunity to thank the donors who provided all the food and supplies we needed to serve 300 people a delicious spaghetti dinner. Thanks go to Carriage House Co. Inc., Cott Corp., Webb’s Captain’s Table Restaurant, Brigiotta’s Farmland Produce and Garden Center Inc., Maplevale Farms Inc., Don McCord and Small Town Planning, Welch Foods Inc., Fieldbrook Farms Ice Cream Inc., Better Baked Foods Inc., Petri Baking Products Inc., Tops Friendly Markets of Dunkirk and Westfield, Patty Benton, WACS Parent Connection, WACS Builders Club, Scott and Laurie Robbins, David Waldron, Lorna Penny, and Joan Caruso.

I must also thank those individuals and groups who filled the auditorium with song to lift our hearts and spirits.

Thanks go to Helen and Dan Ihasz, Kent and Nanette Knappenberger, Pauline Emilson and the New Horizons Brass Ensemble, Philip Farugia, Wind of the Spirit Choir, WACS Jazz Ensemble, WACS Fourth Grade Choir, Kathy Petersen, Michael Hawk, and the Bemus Point United Methodist Church Praise Band.

I am proud of our school and community and appreciate everyone who was involved in making this event successful for the Makuch family.
