Project reporting session Feb. 13

A project reporting session is scheduled for Feb. 13 at the Cornell Lake Erie Research and Extension Laboratory at 6592 W. Main Road, Portland. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. and run until about 2 p.m.

Updates on projects funded by the Lake Erie Regional Grape Program Research and Extension Program, Inc. (the group charged with dispersing the 75 cents per ton voluntary assessment for Concords produced in the Lake Erie Region), New York Wine and Grape Foundation, New York Wine Grape Growers Association and Viticulture Consortium East, will be presented, as well as, short presentations on proposed new projects.

The meeting format is designed to encourage discussion between those who are conducting or proposing projects, the funders, and the grower community by limiting presentations to 5 minutes and eliminating the use of visual aids.

Public invited to Laurel’s 50th birthday

To thank the community for its ongoing support of the Laurel Run, the Hotellings are inviting the public to celebrate Laurel’s 50th birthday Feb. 8 from 3 to 6 p.m. at The Resource Center Workshop on Chestnut Street in Dunkirk. There will be cake and ice cream.

Everyone is invited to attend and wish Laurel a happy 50th birthday.

Tax assistance set for Saturday

The Chautauqua County Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition will have two walk-in VITA Sites open Saturday at the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Room 124-125, Dunkirk from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County, Dunkirk from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m..

An IRS certified volunteer will prepare your taxes at no cost to you. All tax returns are filed electronically.

If you worked in 2012, but earned less than the income guidelines, you may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit – even if you are not required to file an income tax return.
