Despite snow, wrestling Class Championships still on

Despite the heavy snow and blustery conditions we’ve had to endure over the past few days, wrestlers, family members and fans can rest easy in knowing that, as of this writing – some 25 hours before weigh-ins begin at five different locations – the Class Championships are still a go.

“Everything is running according to schedule,” Section 6 wrestling chairman Mike DeBarbieri said Friday evening. “Nothing has changed.”

A refresher: All five Class Championships are slated to begin this morning at 9 with the finals scheduled for later today at 5:30 p.m.

The Class AA Championships (of which Jamestown is taking part) will be held at Lockport High School, Class A (Dunkirk/Silver Creek) will be at Starpoint High School, Class B (Westfield-Ripley-Chautauqua Lake) is at East Aurora High School, Class C at Eden High School and finally Class D is at Portville High School.

Fredonia, Southwestern and Cattaraugus-Little Valley/Pine Valley are Class C schools for wrestling while Falconer, the top-ranked squad amongst small schools in Western New York, Maple Grove, Frewsburg, Cassadaga Valley, Panama, Randolph and Salamanca are in Class D.

Qualifying wrestlers at the Class Championships will then compete at the University at Buffalo for the Division I and Division II State Qualifier on Feb. 10.
