SINCLAIRVILLE – The Sinclairville Fire Depart-ment made a purchase that its president, Myron Lanphere, hopes they will not have to use.
The department purchased a Stihl MS461 Rescue Saw with depth limiter. The saw is capable of cutting various materials including tin, steel or asphalt roofing, wood, composites and even bullet proof glass with its special carbide chain.
David Richir, owner of Valley Motorsports in Sinclairville, which sells lawn and garden equipment and outdoor power equipment, special ordered the rescue saw for the fire department. He explained he can only sell these saws to professional fire and rescue organizations. He thinks the equipment is valuable for a fire department.
Lanphere agrees. “We had a fire recently to a structure with a tin roof,” he said. “We are seeing more and more tin in the valley. The saw is capable of cutting the roof and ventilating the gases.”
The fire department used its usual fundraisers – such as bingo and chicken barbecues – to earn money to purchase the equipment.
