Local teams compete at annual Cheerleading and Dance Competition

The Fredonia State women’s cheerleading team held its annual Cheerleading and Dance Competition Sunday, Jan. 27, in the Steele Hall Fieldhouse.

There were more than 100 teams from local schools, dance studios and all-star groups competing throughout the day.

“I am proud to be part of an event that showcases so many talented local athletes,” said Fredonia State Coach Katie Pucci-Schaefer.

Each cheer team was evaluated on their partner stunts, pyramids, tumbling, jumps, motions, showmanship, choreography, formations, transitions, and overall effect. Scholastic teams that competed were: Brockport, Depew, Dunkirk, Eden, Ellicottville, Genesee Community College, Iroquois, Lackawanna, Lake Shore, North Tonawanda, Orchard Park, West Seneca East, West Seneca West, Williamsville North and Williamsville North. In addition several All-star cheer teams from: the Buffalo Panthers, Cheer Starz, Hott-Shots, DCT Company,, Galaxy, and Infinity Studio competed.

The Dance division of the competition evaluated each teams: Overall Impression, Choreography, Technique and Group Execution. Groups participating in the dance portion of the competition were: the Buffalo Panthers, Collage, DTC Company, Galaxy, Infinity, Spotlight Dance and Studio Dance.

Proceeds from the competition are used by the team to cover travel expenses to the UCA nationals in Orlando, Fla. The Blue Devils competed in the 2013 event on Jan. 19.
