Thinking ‘big’ for 15th year

As hard as it may be in the middle of winter to think spring, an event filled with hope proves it is not that far away.

Last week, a meeting boosting the annual Relay of Life was held. While Dunkirk-Fredonia’s event will be marking a milestone of 15 years, the American Cancer Society is celebrating 100 years.

The 2012 Relay for Life at the Fredonia State outdoor track was quite a success as more than $124,000 was raised for cancer research by more than 600 participants. Already, 2013 Chair Cathy Gilvin is promising this year’s Relay will be “big, big, big.”

Those are lofty expectations when you consider the achievements of last year. But these dedicated volunteers and fundraisers never fail to disappoint.

They are determined and will reach a new goal for the event on June 8. Those looking to assist or register for the event can go to or by call 1-800-ACS-2345.
