Winter Festival Treasure Hunt begins today
MAYVILLE – The President’s Day Weekend Winter Festival Annual Medallion Treasure Hunt, sponsored by The Maple Inn at Chautauqua Institution, officially begins today.
The 3×5-inch Treasure Hunt Medallion (created especially for the 2006 Fes-tival by artist David Stutz-man from a naturally shed elk antler), has been hidden somewhere in Chautauqua County on public property. Placed in plastic for its protection from the elements, the Medallion bearing the I.C.E. logo is not hidden below ground level and no higher than 6 feet above ground level. It is not hidden on any body of water or in the water. Treasure hunters seek at their own risk.
Please note that Winter Festival Committee members as well as last year’s 2012 winner are not eligible to participate. All previous winners can participate in the Treasure Hunt. Daily clues will be given Feb. 4-8 and Feb. 11-15, in the Post Journal, OBSERVER, and radio stations WJTN, SE93, THE FOX, WKSN, and WHUG. They will also appear daily on the Star Media Group web site (www.starnewsdaily.com), with a weekly review of the clues in the Friday edition of the Chautauqua Star. Per the rules, treasure hunters need to have registered by the Feb. 3 deadline (as previously announced) in order to be eligible to win the prize of $100 cash plus weekend stay at The Maple Inn, Chautauqua Institution.
The person or persons locating the Medallion should immediately call the Mayville/Chautauqua Community Chamber of Commerce office at 753-3113 to let us know. The winner will be announced at the President’s Day Wee-kend Winter Festival. And now the first clue is: “It’s time again for you to play. The clues will be listed everyday. Get your County map and the rest of your gear so that YOU can be the winner this year.” Happy Hunting!
Plan on attending the 2013 President’s Day Week-end Winter Festival Feb. 15-17 at scenic Lakeside Park in Mayville, on the shores of Chautauqua Lake. There will be many winter activities and events, contests with prizes, food and craft vendors, children’s activities, fireworks and more. For more information, check out the President’s Day Weekend Winter Festival Facebook page or call the Chamber office at 753-3113.
