FREDONIA STATE: Hockey goals being reached

One of the major accomplishments of the past week has not received enough credit.

Last Saturday evening, the Fredonia State Blue Devils hockey team played a heroic game in defeating the ninth-ranked team in the nation – the Plattsburgh Cardinals – by a 2-1 score. Matt Hehr had a pair of goals in the victory while goalie Mark Friesen made 35 saves in the gritty victory.

“The more that we can start having success, the more confidence we’ll have,” coach Jeff Meredith said. “And the more we can start hitting our stride – I don’t think we’re there yet, but we’re getting closer.”

Tonight, it is the annual Pink the Rink event when the Devils host Cortland State. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for children and $1 for Fredonia State students. Proceeds from the game benefit the American Cancer Society. Proceeds over the past five years of the game – which began against Cortland in 2008 – have topped $34,000.

With the Devils being red hot, expect Steele Hall to be rocking tonight.
