Hanover taxes due Tuesday

Property owners are reminded Tuesday is the last day to pay their 2013 county/town taxes penalty-free. Hanover Town Clerk Janine Salzman reminds Hanover taxpayers that taxes can be paid at the Hanover Town Clerk’s Office, 68 Hanover St., during regular business hours. After Tuesday, a 1 percent penalty will be added to the bill. Payments made after Feb. 28 and before April 2 will be assessed at 2 percent.

Finance Committee meets today

The Dunkirk Common Council Finance Committee is scheduled to meet today at 4:30 p.m. in City Hall. After spending its last few meetings working on the reply to the state audit of the city’s use of Community Development Block Grant funds and a reply to concerns expressed in the audit, the committee will get back to city budget issues, according to an agenda provided by committee chairman and First Ward Coun-cilman Michael Michalski.

The Dec. 31 budget drops, reports from the fiscal affairs officer and city treasurer, along with a look at interfund transfers is scheduled. In addition, an update on the recently-started audit of the city’s 2012 spending and revenues is planned.

Today’s clue for the Medallion Hunt

The President’s Day Weekend Winter Festival Annual Medallion Treasure Hunt, sponsored by The Maple Inn at Chautauqua Institution, is under way.

The 3×5-inch Treasure Hunt Medallion has been hidden somewhere in Chautauqua County on public property. Placed in plastic for its protection from the elements, the Medallion bearing the I.C.E. logo is not hidden below ground level and no higher than 6 feet above ground level. It is not hidden on any body of water or in the water. Treasure hunters seek at their own risk.

Women & Heart Disease Program Focus

HealthQuest WNY is hosting a Women & Heart Disease Education Program at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the SUNY Fredonia Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Guest speaker is Eram Chaudhry, MD, board-certified cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiologist. This program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.
