Dorothy “Dot” Jones, (nee) Burghardt 89, received her angel wings on Thursday, (Feb. 7, 2013).
She leaves behind four children: Thomas (Elizabeth) of Treasure Island, Fla; William (Tammy) of Lake George, N.Y., Cyn D. Gailey, of Sunset Bay; Sandy (Richard) Eggleston of Rochester, N.Y.; eight grandchildren: Matthew (Sarah) Jones, Logan (Jacquie) Jones, Whitney Jones, Cameron Jones, Briana (Isaiah) Loveless, Ian (Kara) Loggans, Chelsea (Charlie) Bender and Trevor Eggleston; six great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Phyllis Burghardt; several nieces and nephews and her feline friend, DUFUS. She was predeceased by daughter, Beth Ann Jones and nephew, Mark Burghardt.
Born in Kenmore, N.Y. and raised in Sunset Bay, the daughter of William and Dorothy Burghardt, she was a beloved member of the Sunset Bay community for more than 70 years.
Dot is a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy. Later, she worked in the family-owned Sunset Bay Amusement Park and was owner of the Sunset Bay Deli (The Little Store), a realtor, and CEO (Creator of Extraordinary Objects) of Creation Station stained glass in Silver Creek. Known affectionately as: Mummy, Mumsy, Oh Hot Gram, and our Fearless Leader, she loved to watch people from her front deck, and enjoyed backyard bird watching, stained glass, crafts, sewing and especially chocolate!! She was a member of the Sunset Bay Association and the Silver Creek Seniors.
A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 165 Central Ave. Silver Creek, NY on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 11:00 followed by a cele-bration of Dot’s life at the Sunset Bay Fire Hall.
