SILVER CREEK – Samuel Greco, 80, of Silver Creek, NY passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, NY.
Sam was born March 23, 1932 in Laona, NY, the son of the late Gasper and Josephine (Zoda) Greco.
Sam served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He fought in the Battle of “Pork Chop Hill,” where he loaded mortars. After the war, he transferred to the U.S Army Reserves, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 31, 1960. He worked on his family farm and also worked in construction for 37 years. Sam belonged to the Laborers Local 210A and retired at age 62.
In his younger years, Sam enjoyed his vegetable garden and he liked to hunt and fish. Spending time with his family was very important to him. His son-in-law said, “Sam was known for the chrome on his truck and to have steak on Saturday night.”
He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Silver Creek.
He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Nancy (Botticello) Greco, whom he married on April 23, 1955 and by his two daughters, Cathy (Mark) Powers of Sinclairville and Cheryl (Jody) DiPalma of Buffalo; five grandchildren, Ashlee (Jim) Rhoades, Nicolas, April, Brittany and Matthew; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Drake; a brother, Joseph (Nora) Greco of Silver Creek and a sister, Stella Gambino of W. Seneca.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James V. Greco.
Prayers will be held to-day, February 11, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. from the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel in Silver Creek fol-lowed by a Mass of Chris-tian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Silver Creek. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
