Senior Night success

Dimary Maisonet made sure her Senior Night would be a memorable one as she lifted the Dunkirk Lady Marauders (9-3, 12-5) to a convincing 70-43 victory over Allegany-Limestone on Monday in CCAA Division 1 girls high school basketball.

The senior scored 16 points to lead the way as Dunkirk clinched second place behind Olean in the division.

“She really stepped up tonight and played the game of her career,” Dunkirk coach Sarah Bogardus said. “We came out flat in the beginning and she came out and kept us going in all four quarters She really stepped up and kept us ahead. She picked the right game to do it. She played such great pressure man-to-man defense on their point guard. She made it tough and that forced turnovers and got us into the flow offensively and got us some fast-break chances.”

The Lady Marauders took an 18-9 first-quarter lead and ballooned it to 30-18 at halftime. In the second half, the home team outscored the Lady Gators, 40-27.

Senior Khee Nance led all scorers with 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds with two assists and five steals. Fellow senior Lacey Clark contributed with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and a block. Meanwhile, senior Joyce Bomasuto did not find the score sheet, but played stellar defense, according to Bogardus.

“This is a team that lost to Allegany-Limestone the first time around and they were hungry and ready to get them for Senior Night,” Bogardus said.

“All four contributed so much. Joyce, it doesn’t show in the stat sheet, but she plays such great defense and thats huge for us. Khee and Lacy played a great all-around game. These four girls have just played so awesome this past year and they are the reason Dunkirk girls basketball has been successful the past couple years. They are great girls on and off the court. I feel so lucky to have this season with them. They have been committed to learning basketball the last four years and they have developed so much from their freshmen year to now.”

Rachael Rosas added seven points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals for the winners.

Brandy Fuller led the Lady Gators with 10 points while Allison Watson and Mariah Monroe each pulled down seven rebounds in a losing effort.

The Lady Marauders return to action Friday when they travel to McKinley.
