Hornets win another OT thriller
FORESTVILLE – For the second time in as many games, the Forestville Hornets (2-9, 5-12) needed overtime to pull out a victory.
Tuesday’s victory came at the hands of Franklinville, 87-84, in CCAA Division 3 boys high school basketball action.
This time, the hero was Adam Pleva as he drained a 3-pointer from the corner in the final seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime.
Making the win special was the fact it happened on Senior Recognition Night. Before the game, the Hornets honored seniors Pleva, Robert Hooper, Jon Burgos and Nate Maines.
“I am definitely proud of all the seniors,” Forestville coach Ralph Jackson said. “It’s good to send them out on a win – especially the way the win was. It will be something they will remember forever.”
Jackson also made special mention of Maines, who has missed the season due to injury.
“He has only missed a handful of practices,” Jackson said. “He has helped me run practice or do the scorebook. He has been there for his team all season.”
The Panthers jumped out to a 12-2 lead early in the first quarter before the Hornets stormed back to tie the score, 14-all after the opening eight minutes. In the second quarter, both teams scored 19 points as they went into halftime tied, 33-33.
The visiting team outscored Forestville, 21-18, in the third frame, but the Hornets scored three more points than Franklinville in the final frame, highlighted by Pleva’s buzzer beater.
Wayne Hartloff went 4-for-4 from the foul line in overtime to help secure the win. Every Forestville player scored in the contest, led by Hartloff’s 20 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. Pleva and Connor Stone each added 12 points and Caleb Makuch had 11 for the winners. Makuch also had 13 rebounds while Pleva and Jacob Nosbisch each dished out four assists.
Forestville returns to action Thursday when it travels to Pine Valley.
