Two big quarters leads Forestville over Westfield
FORESTVILLE – The Forestville Lady Hornets used a big second quarter and another big fourth quarter to defeat the Westfield Lady Wolverines, 48-32, Thursday in CCAA Division 3 girls high school basketball.
Sydney Youngberg led the Lady Hornets with 14 points while Alicia Szumigala had 11 in the win. Szumigala also had nine rebounds, four assists and six steals. Jessica Makuch had nine rebounds while Youngberg pulled down 10 boards. Amanda Weaver added six rebounds while point guard Ryanne Dugan had three assists, three steals and only two turnovers.
After falling behind, 10-5 in the first quarter, Forestville used a 17-5 second-quarter run for a 23-15 halftime edge. Westfield cut into the lead in the third quarter as it trailed just 33-27 with eight minutes remaining. However, the Lady Hornets used a 15-5 run to close out the contest and earn the victory.
Westfield’s Emily Archer led all scorers with 17 points while Nina Manzella and Abbey Jopek combined for 13 rebounds.
Thursday night’s game marked the final game for Westfield coach Rich Morrison as the team has elected to opt out of the Section 6 playoffs. The game was also the final for official Paul Cooley, who has been a basketball official for 51 years.
Notes: Forestville held a fundraiser Wednesday and raised more than $1,600 to go towards Roswell.
