SILVER CREEK – The Silver Creek Black Knights (18-0) completed a perfect regular season with a 73-55 victory over the Dunkirk Marauders (6-12) Thursday in non-league boys high school basketball action.
Billy Brooks paced the Black Knight attack with 18 points, 23 rebounds and six blocks – the defensive key for Silver Creek.
“He had one of the better nights (of the season) as far as being aggressive and attacking the basket,” Silver Creek coach Rob Genco said.
“He kept possessions alive with his offensive rebounds.”
Silver Creek led Dunkirk, 17-10, after one period of play and continued to increase the lead through halftime (36-25) and after three quarters (61-40).
“It’s the same story every night,” Genco said. “(They’re) just very unselfish basketball players. We had four players in double digits tonight, which speaks very well to our style of basketball.”
Zeddie Williams led the quartet with 19 points along with Brooks’ 18, Brennan White’s 15 and Kaine Kettle’s 14.
Alex Crossan led the Marauders in a losing effort with 23 points while Marquel Ruiz added 13 points.
According to Genco, this season’s Silver Creek team is the fourth in school history to record a perfect regular season.
“I’m happy for (my players),” Genco said. “I’m happy for them. They deserve it. They worked hard. Our goal this year wasn’t to go undefeated – it was to win the division and get the Sectional Championship. The undefeated season was a bonus.”
The Black Knights will begin their quest for a title next Friday against either Chautauqua Lake or International Prep in a second-round Class C2 matchup.
