St. Rose of Lima hosts annual spaghetti dinner Sunday
FORESTVILLE – Once again, the parishioners of St. Rose of Lima are ready to serve their annual spaghetti dinner to the public. The dinner will be held this Sunday in the Fr. Gerald Sheehan Hall at 11 Center St., Forestville, from noon to 5 p.m. The community is welcome to attend.
The church’s traditional homemade sauce will be served with homemade meatballs. Fresh green salad, Italian bread, ice cream and Italian cookies for dessert will complete the menu. Last year, alfredo sauce was added to the menu for those who would prefer a slightly different meal. As it was a success, it will be offered again this year. The cost remains the same as prior years – adults, $8, and children, $4.
Scott Gilman and John Rogers are co-chairmen of this year’s affair. The men and women of the parish assist Gilman in preparing the meatballs, but the men are masters of the sauce.
Spaghetti dinners are very popular as fundraisers for many benefits and organizations, as pasta is popular as well. The St Rose Church, member of the Faith Community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, will use this dinner to defray costs for and maintenance of the church and grounds.
February is an unpredictable month when it comes to the weather but it was chosen years ago as a good month to offer spaghetti, as it does not conflict with the church’s other events. These include the chicken and biscuit dinner in April, the Fall Festival pork chop dinner in October, and the chicken barbecue and Lawn Fete, which will be held this year on Aug. 4. Although Sunday may be cold outside, the roads will be open and the friendly people at St. Rose will warm up patrons’ days. It’s always a pleasure for parishioners to offer dinners to the public as it brings many friends and family from surrounding areas to Forestville. These dinners become quite social.
Fr. Dan Fiebelkorn, pastor of the Faith Community of Mt. Carmel, welcomes one and all to enjoy the day at the Forestville dinner. Reservations for a full table may be requested. Take-out is available and local deliveries are available upon request. Call Pat Morelle at 965-2738 or Scott Gilman at 965-2459 for more information.
