Ladies’ auxiliary meets Monday
The John T. Murray VFW 1017 Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday at the Post at 6:30 p.m. Last month’s meeting was canceled due to inclement weather. Members are reminded to check WDOE or Channel 2 for cancelations.
Friends of Anderson-Lee Library holding book sale
The Friends of Anderson-Lee Library are accepting donations for a mid-winter book sale Feb. 28 and March 1 and 2. All donations may be dropped off at the library in Silver Creek and will be accepted until Feb. 26. The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, 12-5 on Friday, and 10-2 on Saturday. Paperbacks will sell for 50 cents and hard covers will sell for $1.
At this time, the group is not accepting encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, magazines, dictionaries, encyclopedias or any kind of textbook. These items do not sell and take up valuable space. Please be sure to only donate books that are clean and are free of rips and tears and musty odors.
Donations may be dropped off during operating hours. The library is open Monday and Tuesday, noon to 8 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds from the annual book sale are used to enhance library collections.
The Friends of Anderson-Lee Library is comprised of community members who support the local library. Membership is ongoing. More information about becoming a Friend of Anderson-Lee can be obtained by calling 934-3468 or by stopping at the library, located at 43 Main St. in Silver Creek.
Distance learning course offered at four local schools
Cool Things to Do with Your iPad, iPhone, and iPod, a non-credit distance learning course, will be offered from 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 28.
The course, conducted by Jamestown Community College, will be available at the Silver Creek, Cassadaga, Brocton and Westfield high schools. The cost is $15. To register, call 338-1005.
Participants will learn how to download useful, fun and inexpensive applications to their Apple devices.
Training session set on identification and reporting of child abuse
A New York state mandated training session for professionals on identifying and reporting child abuse, maltreatment and neglect will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on March 2 at the LoGuidice Educational Center, D Building, at 9520 Fredonia-Stockton Road in Fredonia.
The training is required for all persons applying for a provisional or permanent certification of license valid for administrative or supervisory service, classroom teaching service, or school service. Therefore, in addition to teachers and school administrators, the mandate affects school physicians, nurses, therapists and others in the fields of healthcare and education.
Participants should bring their license or certificate number with them if possible. A State Education Department certificate of completion will be provided for each course participant.
