Twenty years ago — 1993

The Blessed Sacrament Society of Holy Trinity Church in Dunkirk held its 75th installation of officers in the Msgr. Bernardo Hall. Elected were Mary Rotunda, president; Antoinette Catalano, vice president; Mary Leone, treasurer; and Phyllis Siracuse, secretary. The Rev. Richard DiGiuilio, pastors, thanked the members for their support during the past year.

Thirty years ago – 1983

Dr. C. McCollister “Mac” Evarts of Rochester, a native of Fredonia and a graduate of Fredonia High School, has been chosen president of the Association of Orthopedic Chairmen, the organization composed of heads of orthopedics departments throughout the United States. He will serve as president through November 1983. Dr. Evarts is chairman of orthopedics at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Forty years ago – 1973

The first 115 American POWs released by Hanoi received heroes’ welcomes today as they walked across a red carpet to freedom in an emotional greeting at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines.

Silver Creek High School students Sandra Slocum and Robin Homokay, seniors, and SueAnn Zuzel, junior, took part in the television show, “Name That Headline,” this morning at 11:30 on Channel 2, Buffalo.
