DHS, FHS compete at Fredonia State in league championships

Fredonia’s Matt Civilette took first in both the long and triple jump events Saturday during the Western New York High School Indoor Track Team Championship at Fredonia State.
Civilette set a personal best in the triple jump with his leap of 42-feet, 11-inches while he took first in the long jump with a distance of 20-3 1/2.
Also for the Hillbillies, Brenden Maslak set a personal-best time in the 300-meter event, crossing the finish line in 45 seconds. Nick Arcoraci also had a personal-best time, as he finished the 1,600 in a time of 5:42.
For the Lady Hillbillies, Miranda Warner was third in the high jump, setting a school record with her height of 4-8. Devin Kowalewski was fourth in the triple jump (32-1/4) while tying teammate Nicole Woleben in the 55 hurdles, as both girls crossed the finish line in 9.6 seconds. Woleben also set a personal best in the triple jump with her leap of 14-11 1/2.
Also for the Lady Hillbillies, Erica Vicary was sixth in the 3,000 (12:34) and Ally Cobb set a personal best in the 300 with her time of 45.8 seconds.
Meanwhile, for Dunkirk, led by Lisa Dunbar’s career-best performance in the pole vault, both Dunkirk indoor track and field teams finished in the top 10.
Dunbar increased her school record with a vault of 9-6 – good enough for a third-place finish. She also took runner-up in the 55 with a time of 7.84 seconds. Calan Pogorzelski placed fourth in the 600 with a time of 1:47.1 while Amancia Viera took fourth in the shot put.
Pogorzelski, Dunbar, Emilee Hanlon and Samantha Hemenger finished third in the 4×200 relay (1:58.5).
The Lady Marauders finished eighth of 15 teams in the Small School Girls Division with 28 points, 60 behind champion Williamsville South. Fredonia/Westfield finished 11th with 10 points while Lake Shore finished tied for 14th with Maryvale.
On the boys’ side, Nick Barlette led the Marauders with a fourth-place finish in the 55 (6.91) while Rashad Graham placed second in the high jump (5-8). Ray Tarnowski took fifth in the 3,200 (11:47.7).
Meanwhile, Barlette, Nick Stolinski, Kevin Morales and Verek Nixon took second in the 4×200 relay (1:41.6). The team of Tarnowski, Graham, Ethan Francis and Javier Soto finished fifth in the 4×400 relay (3:54.8).
The Marauders took ninth of 15 teams in the Small School Boys division with 23 points. Lake Shore finished seventh with 26 points while Fredonia/Westfield placed 10th with 20 points. Cheektowaga won the event with 67.5 points.
Next up is the sectional meet, which will be held at Fredonia State on Thursday, Feb. 21. Fredonia will be represented by Civilette (long jump, triple jump), Warner (high jump), Kowalewski (triple jump, 55 hurdles), Woleben (55 hurdles) and Cobb (300).
