Honors: High praise for broadcaster
A northern Chautauqua County legend in sports has received some well deserved recognition.
Dan Palmer of WDOE in Dunkirk was one of six people to be inducted into the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame. Palmer was inducted with Ron Blackmer, Cal Cederquist, the late Jim Foti, Walt Thurnau and Jim Young during the 32nd annual event in Lakewood.
In the broadcast business for 38 years now, Palmer is the voice of sports for this region. Whenever there was a big game or event for this region – whether it be high school sports or Little League action, he has covered it.
“(It’s) why am I up here tonight,” Palmer said after accepting his ring and plaque. “Tonight is all about those special people.”
On Monday night, Palmer was one of those “special people.”
