City of Dunkirk seeking historian

The City of Dunkirk is accepting letters of interest for the position of City Historian. The salary for this position is $750 per annum.

The position involves the responsibility of compiling information and data, the maintenance of records concerning the history of the city, and includes research and consultation functions for and with persons interested in city history.

Examples of typical work activities include: gathers historical material from old records, old books, etc.; files such material in fireproof safes or vaults; may write or edit articles for publication concerning the city’s past and present history; on request, give lectures to students and interested groups; handles correspondence and requests for information concerning the city’s history.

In addition, the historian files an annual report, in the month of January, to the mayor and to the state historian of work accomplished during the preceding year.

County Planning Board to meet

The next meeting of the Chautauqua County Planning Board has been scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Westfield Village Hall, 23 Elm St., Westfield.

Lakeshore Humane Society to hold spaghetti dinner fundraiser

The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Blessed Mary Angela Parish Social Center (St. Hedwig’s), 324 Townsend St., Dunkirk. Tickets are $8, and are available from LHS members or at the door.

Take-outs will be available.

There will also be 50/50 and basket raffles. This event is to benefit the work of the LHS as it helps orphaned animals.

Soup supper Monday night in Westfield

Looking for a way to beat the winter chill? Circle Monday on the calendar. The Westfield Memorial Hospital Regional Auxiliary is inviting everyone to come to its first-ever soup supper. The event will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 49 S. Portage St., Westfield, between 5 and 7 p.m.

Fifteen delicious homemade soups will be on the menu, made by the members of the WMH Auxiliary Board.

Those attending may sample as many as they choose. Rounding out the menu will be bread, beverages and an array of homemade desserts.

The cost for this chill-chasing meal is $6 for adults and $3 for children. There is a flat $20 fee for families of four or more. All proceeds will be used to further the WMH Auxiliary refurbishing projects at the hospital.

Forestville absentee ballots available

Absentee ballots for voting are available in the Forestville Village Clerk’s Office, 18 Chestnut St., Forestville. There is now a drop box for water bills and tax payments next to the clerk’s office outside door for the residents’ convenience.

Dunkirk Town Board workshop, special meeting Tuesday

The Dunkirk Town Board will hold a workshop and special meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the town hall, 4737 Willow Road.

The purpose the meeting and workshop is to continue review of the employee hand book.

Relay for Life Team Lucky 777 to hold chicken barbecue

Relay for Life Team Lucky 777 will host a Chiavetta’s Chicken Barbecue on Sunday.

It will be held at the First Ward Falcon Club on Lake Shore Drive in Dunkirk. It will run from noon until 5 p.m.

Tickets are $8.50 and can be purchased by calling 366-7292 or 785-5190. Eat in or take out. Deliveries can be made with the purchase of 10 or more and ordered by Feb. 24.

There will be a silent auction. Drive through available.

All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
