Zonta Club of Jamestown offers scholarship to local young ladies
JAMESTOWN – The Zonta Club of Jamestown is offering three $1,000 scholarships/awards for young ladies pursuing higher education in fall 2013.
The Nell Newton Scholarship, which is a financial award of $1,000 based upon merit and need, is available to a female furthering her education with the intention of making business her profession. Applicants must reside in one of the following school districts: Bemus Point, Cassadaga Valley, Chautauqua Lake, Falconer, Frewsburg, Jamestown, Panama, Randolph, or Southwestern.
The Mary Bargar Scholarship, which is a financial award of $1,000 based upon merit, is available to a female high school senior who intends to continue her education and enter the professions. Applicants must reside in one of the following school districts: Bemus Point, Cassadaga Valley, Chautauqua Lake, Falconer, Frewsburg, Jamestown, Panama, Randolph or Southwestern.
The Young Women in Public Affairs Award is given to a woman between the ages of 16-19, as of April 1, who has a commitment to volunteerism, experience in local or student government, been involved in volunteer leadership achievements, and is dedicated to the advancement of the status of women. The Zonta Club of Jamestown gives out one $1,000 award and then forwards the winner’s application to the District. The recipient has the opportunity to receive an additional $1,000 from District 4. If the District selects the Zonta Club’s applicant, the application is forwarded to the Zonta International Foundation which selects 10 recipients who each receives $4,000.
Application forms for each scholarship/award can be received by either contacting the Zonta members below, or by sharing this information with the guidance counselors within the school district.
The deadline for all applications and supporting documents (recommendations and high school transcripts/verification) is March 1.
