Adopting daily healthy eating habits program March 13

HealthQuest WNY is an initiative of Lake Erie Regional Health System of New York designed to provide health and wellness information, resources and support to the community. During National Nutrition Month, HealthQuest WNY will host a program for area residents featuring Brooks Memorial Hospital’s Chief Clinical Dietitian Carey Skelton, MS, MPH, RD, CDN. The program, Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day, will be held at 7 p.m. on March 13 at Chautauqua Health & Fitness, 1170 Central Ave. in Dunkirk. This program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.

During the program, Skelton will discuss the benefits of adopting healthy eating habits as part of daily life. According to the official, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has created the Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day awareness campaign to encourage personalized healthy eating styles and educate people about health concerns and choices made. During her presentation, Skelton will discuss healthy eating preferences; lifestyle, cultural and ethnic traditions and concerns; options for those with active and on-the-run lifestyles; and how to customize meal plans. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions about themselves or loved ones.

As Chief Clinical Dietitian at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, Skelton’s responsibilities include providing nutrition education to employees, patients, and the community. She joined the Brooks Hospital family in November 2012. Prior to joining Brooks Memorial Hospital, she was employed at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh as the Pediatric Outpatient Dietitian for the Gastroenterology Depart-ment. Skelton completed a bachelor of science degree in dietetics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master of science degree in food and nutrition from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a masters of public health degree in epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh. Skelton is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa.
