The Chautauqua County Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition will have two walk-in VITA sites open Saturday at the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk, room 124-125, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the Ahira Hall Memorial Library, 37 W. Main St., Brocton, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
An IRS certified volunteer will prepare your taxes at no cost. All tax returns are filed electronically. You must bring your social security card and picture identification with you. If you are filing married filing jointly, both spouses must be present to sign required forms.
If you worked in 2012, but earned less than the income guidelines, you may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit – even if you are not required to file an income tax return.

Hydraulic fracturing program to be on Access Channel 5
“Unconventional Gas Development from Shale: Four Myths” was the topic of a presentation by Dr. Anthony Ingraffea in Portland on Feb. 26. Professor Ingraffea is a shale expert and engineering professor at Cornell University. Part one of his two-hour talk will be aired on Access Channel 5, beginning Saturday and running through March 15 at 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Prof. Ingraffea spoke to a packed house at Cornell University’s Lake Erie Research and Extension Laboratory about “high-volume hydraulic fracturing” that could come to Chautauqua County when New York state completes its Gov. Cuomo-mandated EPA health review.
The event was sponsored by the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy, the SUNY Fredonia Academic Community Engagement Center, and the Environmental Justice Ministry of the Unitarian Church. It was filmed and edited by Snowshoefilms.
