Anthony Chillemi, 79, of Dunkirk, NY passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday afternoon (March 14, 2013) at
McAuley Manor in Hornell, NY following a lengthy battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He was born Dec. 12, 1933 in San Antonio, Sicily, Italy, the son of the late Santo and Carmela (Molino) Chillemi. He traveled by ship to Ellis Island, NY on March 14, 1962. He was a
shoemaker by trade for nine years in San Antonio, Sicily, Italy and 38 years as owner/ operator of Anthony’s Shoe Service in Dunkirk.
Mr. Chillemi was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church. He enjoyed his work and building friendships with his customers over the
years. Aside from his craft, he enjoyed cultivating his garden every year, listening and dancing to his favorite music. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Grace (Crino) Chillemi; three daughters, Carmelina (Jeff) Stobie, of Chesapeake, VA, Angela Chillemi and Anna (Christopher) Patton, both of Dunkirk; two brothers, Vincenzo Chillemi of San Antonio, Sicily, Italy and Joseph (Maria) Chillemi of
Dunkirk; one sister, Anna Chillemi of San Antonio, Sicily, Italy; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Jessica and Elisabeth Stobie of Chesapeake, VA; Antonio, Giulianna, and Mia Patton, all of Dunkirk and many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9:15 from the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10
o’clock in Holy Trinity Church. Entombment will be in the Pieta Mausoleum of St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held
today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
