SUNY Fredonia Business Club names Business Persons of the Year
SUNY Fredonia’s Business Club has named David and Polly Gambino as its 36th Business Persons of the Year. The Business Person of the Year Award is given by the Business Club every Spring to an individual or individuals in the local community who exhibit outstanding business leadership, public service, integrity and genuine concern for the well-being of their employees. The Gambinos will be honored with a dinner and award ceremony on Wednesday, April 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Multi-purpose Room of the Williams Center.
The evening’s keynote address will be delivered by Mark W. Thomas, New York State Parks Western District Director.
David and Polly Gambino have been the owners and operators of Thruway Super Service since the late 1970s, and members of the Dunkirk/Fredonia community all of their lives. They have managed a very successful, sustained, and innovative business for over 35 years. Thruway Super Service is a small business that specializes in towing, winching, roadside repairs, and a repair shop that services cars and light and heavy trucks. David Gambino started as a youngster in the family business. In 1977, David and a partner leased the business and building from David’s father. In 1987, they made the final decision to purchase the business from his father and move to their current location. In 1993, David bought out his partner and continued the business with his wife, Polly Gambino. David and Polly have diversified the business by selling used cars and renting U-hauls. Customers, employees, business associates, and friends praise Thruway Super Service’s attention to people first.
David and Polly Gambino are well-known not only for their business, but also for their involvement in the community. They have been very involved with their church, the First United Methodist Church of Fredonia, volunteering with the Helping Hands Mission team, the hospitality team, and the finance team. David and Polly have been recognized by many in the community for their tireless community service and support for those in need.
