Vincent J. Latona

VERSAILLES – Vincent J. Latona, 98, of Main St. passed away Saturday (March 16, 2013) at the TLC Healthcare Center, Lakeshore.

He was born June 11, 1914 in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Bova) Latona.

Vince married the former Doris Thompson on June 29, 1940 in the Versailles United Methodist Church; Doris survives.

In 1976, Vincent retired from NYS where he worked as a barber after more than 20 years of service. Prior to his State retirement, he was a Crane operator. Vince enjoyed raising farm animals and gardening at his home. He was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church and he also was the church handyman and groundskeeper.

Survivors besides his wife of nearly 73 years include two sons: David (Marleen) Latona of Collins, Philip (Mary) Latona of St. Mary’s Pa.; grandchildren Randy, Carla, Samantha, Justin, Kimberly, Mark, Tracy, and Wendy. He was great grandfather to 16 great grandchildren. Survivors also include a sister, Mrs. Frank (Josephine) DeChristopher of Wannakah, NY. Vincent was preceded in death by a brother, Angelo Latona, sister Louise Caputo, a daughter, Shirley A. Latona, and granddaughter Tammy.

Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St. Gowanda (716)532-4200 from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the Versailles United Methodist Church, Main St, Versailles (gather at church) Interment to follow in the Versailles Cemetery.
