Bud ‘n’ Bloom Garden Club holds spring banquet
The Bud ‘n’ Bloom Garden Club recently held its Spring Banquet at the Shorewood Country Club. The main events of the evening were the installation of the officers and the presentation of the yearbook, which describes all the programs for the upcoming year. Lucy Hurley, Judy Wilcox and Phyllis Stein-berg were on the banquet committee, while Beverly Barnes created the lovely centerpiece and individual favors for each attendee.
Lucy Hurley installed the officers and presented each with a special gift. Her creative presentation was ad-apted from the television game show “Wheel of Fortune.”
The new officers are Susan Drag, president; Janet Arnold, vice president; Audrey Parker, treasurer; and Beverly Barnes, secretary.
Penny Deakin and Judy Kawski once again created and designed the attractive yearbook, a copy of which was given to each member. The yearbook describes all the exciting events planned for the upcoming year. A different hostess works to help make each event successful.
Some time was spent discussing the upcoming plant sale, which benefits Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County. This event involves the participation of all of the club’s members.
This is the fifth year that Bud ‘n’ Bloom Garden Club will hold this civic event, which has earned the club several awards. The sale will be located at the Butternut Hollow Barn on Route 20 in Portland on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The barn is across the street from the Cooperative Extension Building and will be filled with perennials, flats of annuals, and basket arrangements as well as a variety of herbs and vegetables.
This year raffle tickets will again be sold for some gorgeous bushes, donated by local nurseries.
Bud ‘n’ Bloom Garden Club was organized 45 years ago and is a member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs in the Atlantic region and of District VIII of the Chautauqua region.
